What Music Inspires Me? / by Ben Courtwright

The genre of music I mostly listen to is pop. I always pay attention to the lyrics and I play the songs on repeat for hours at a time. I listen to music that I can relate with; music that understands me. I also feel like singing about feelings and experiences can help you get through tough times in your life. I also have memories of music in my life that I will never forget. Like hearing Baby One More Time by Britney Spears in the mall while on the other side and I had to go find out where it was coming from and my dad didn’t even know what I was going after. Music makes you move, and it makes you live in the moment. Music heals. I stray away from mainstream rap and pop music. I like listening to the less popular songs from Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga. You get to see their messages clearer and possibly what they have gone through and how they dealt with those feelings and decisions they had to make. I haven’t run out of new music. There are layers and layers to songs you never realize. There are reasons why people choose the words they choose to sing about what order the words go. I like to radiate in music and I just let those feelings sit with me and I accept them for what they are, and I don’t judge them; I let them pass by. It can help distract yourself and if you can’t, it can help you accept and embrace your inner being.
